As an active citizen advocate for over 15 years, Don Willie is committed to serving and enhancing Millcreek City’s position as a premier place to live, work and recreate. A Utah native with a young and active family, Don understands the issues and challenges that face our unique and vibrant community now and in the future.
Of the titles he holds, Don considers his most important titles to be husband and father. Don is married to Jennifer Abigail and together they have three wonderful children: Mason (an energetic 3 year old), Emma (a mischievous 18 month old) and Bandith (a Cheewenie – yes, it’s a registered breed).
Don graduated from the University of Utah with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Asian Studies.
He began his career in the Utah Governor’s Office, as a policy analyst, working on healthcare, education, environmental and public lands policy. Don went on to manage the state AmeriCorps program, including oversight of a $3M budget and over 1000 AmeriCorps members.
Currently, Don is the Managing Director of World Trade Center Utah, a statewide nonprofit that helps Utah companies identify and pursue international business opportunities. He understands the importance of growing local companies and adding jobs to the economy. Don manages statewide outreach for the organization as well as operations, including budgeting & finances and all human resource functions.
Don has worked with numerous community organizations, businesses and government agencies. He has a strong understanding of community and economic development as he has supported governments and communities across the state in their planning efforts. Don believes strongly in establishing a city government that can effectively serve the interests of its residents and which is accountable, accessible and responsive. He believes that enhancing Millcreek City will require unprecedented collaboration and effective communication throughout our community.
From engaging businesses in economic development to involving residents in transportation planning to consulting with families on recreation opportunities, Don is prepared to lead out on and engage others in the democratic process. Together we will enhance Millcreek City!
